My name is Jonathan Mejia and I am running to be your next councilman at large!
I’ve been a Bloomfield resident for a little over 10 years. I live in Halcyon Park with my wife and two children, and we absolutely love the neighborhood and the town. I’m an IT professional and graphic designer/illustrator and have been actively attending town council meetings and community events for several years. My wife is active in community building and mutual aid, and our two children attend public school here at Berkeley Elementary. I am not a politician and have no designs to run for higher office–I’m just a community member who wants to actively make things better for all residents. Although Bloomfield has so much going for it, I see a lot of room for improvement.
NOT LOOKING TO BE A CAREER POLITICIAN
LOOKING TO BE A PUBLIC SERVANT FOR BLOOMFIELD AT LARGE
I’ve been proudly helping out my neighbors and neighborhood for years, and would love to do so for the entire town as your Councilman at Large.
Smart Spending: I want to see our town making investments that benefit the residents: climate-smart infrastructure that addresses flooding and other hazards, affordable housing, safe roads, efficient public transit, and other public services. Our tax dollars should uplift the community, not end up in already deep pockets.
Transparency and Communication: I don’t believe that any decisions affecting residents should be made behind closed doors – whether it’s the budget, property taxes, or major purchasing decisions. I plan to make myself accessible to all residents to listen to your concerns and ensure that you have true representation.
Stop Selling the Town Out to Developers: I don’t know a single resident of this town who thinks we need to build more lofts and continue to give developers tax breaks. We have not seen the infrastructure of the town improved or built up accordingly to deal with the influx of new residents, and our property taxes continue to go up.
Support Local Businesses: I’d like to see a committee dedicated to attracting more businesses to the town and supporting the ones we already have so our money can stay in our community. If Montclair can do it, so can we!
